Sport 4 NottinghamSport 4 Nottingham is a partnership initiative to increase sporting participation, attract major sports events and improve the sporting facilities in the area. One Nottingham has identified a 10 year strategic priority to develop "an international standing for sports, heritage and culture" as part of the Sustainable Community Strategy. Sport 4 Nottingham will have a part to play in achieving this strategic priority. The initiative has four main aims:
An event was held for stakeholders and the consensus was that better co-ordination of sporting events and participation were the priorities and achieving these two things would help to achieve our goals. At the May 2009 One Nottingham Board meeting a proposal to fund a two year programme of sporting activity for young people was approved. This programme will provide free or very low cost activity during school holidays for young people in the city until March 2011. A Major Sports Events Strategy is soon to be published and this will set out how we intend to attract significant events to the area. The Community Sports Network for the city has developed a physical activity and sports strategy which is aimed at increasing participation with a focus on the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. All of the above activity are examples of how One Nottingham and its partners intend to make Nottingham a City of Sport. |
