Early Intervention

Early Intervention is a cross-city programme facilitating partnership working to tackle intergenerational cycles of underachievement and deprivation in the city.

As a result of the successful Early Intervention International Conference, fifteen offers of new support and expertise have been received, including the University of Nottingham and a number of local authorities. The Early Intervention team will be following up leads over the next few months; look out for further updates on the Early Intervention website: www.nottinghamearlyintervention.org.uk

The Early Intervention Approach

The purpose of an early intervention approach is to involve all Partners in the City in a coherent and systematic attempt to improve outcomes for children, young people, adults and families who are very likely to experience difficulties and to break the intergenerational cycle of problems in the long-term. Girl in classroomThis requires a longer-term shift to focusing on the causes rather than symptoms within cycles of challenge. Investment in prevention and early intervention will reduce the demand on specialist services, reducing costs in the long-term. Currently in Nottingham the number of children, young people, adults and families with high needs is significant.

In order to achieve the necessary impact on the intergenerational nature of underachievement and deprivation, the commitment and participation of all Partners throughout and beyond the One Nottingham family of Theme Partnerships is essential. While Early Intervention may be organisationally 'owned' by One Nottingham and 'led' by the Strategic Partnership for Children, Young People and Families on behalf of One Nottingham, it can only be successfully sustained if it belongs to, and is the responsibility of, everyone involved within the Partnership
